I want to be invovled with Pre-Law as well. I want to get my JD in the future, so I DEFINITELY plan on going to law school (obviously). I'm really interested in politics and I love Washington, DC. I actually want to work on Capitol Hill one day as well.

George Washington University (Washington, DC)
Pros - LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION, internship opps, great school
Cons - Cost

The College of New Jersey
Pros - Instate student, another great school, classes seem interesting
Cons - It's not DC. haha, their finaid package was not spectacular, even though I'm instate I would most likely need to dorm

Fordham University
Pros - NYC, close (I can commute), with finaid abotu $6k a year, great for my major
Cons - Having to commute

My heart is sort of set on DC. But I have two issues. Cost (I'm not sure if I want to be that in debt, I still didn't receive my full finad...maybe they will match Fordham?) and location (I know, double edged sword). My dad's been sick all my life and DC is about a 5 hour drive. I'm not sure if I want to be that far away from home. On the other hand, I LOVE DC and I think it would be a great place for my career.

You didn’t give your out-of-pocket for GW but I’ll assume it’s about 28K. Thus just under 100k difference over four years compared to Fordham.

And you tell us you are likely to put in more debt going to law school?

You can read about history at 6K per year or read about history at 28K per year. Your choice. To me, it’s a huge no-brainer.

I also don’t buy the location, location, location argument. You have NYC at your footsteps. Last I checked internships are available in NYC and they have plenty of museums and other locations that might want an intern majoring in history.

So, bottom line, your decision seems to boil down to huge debt versus GW’s terrific campus.

Have you checked out TCNJ’s placement rates into Law Schools? Its excellent. I would go with TCNJ - less debt - the most competitive of all the schools you were admitted AND an outstanding placement rate

You will be able to get into a good-excellent law school if you perform well at any of these 3 schools. While GW has an excellent law school, so does Fordham. Keeping debt low is now more important than it ever has been, especially if you strongly anticipate law school tuition also.

I’d be literally receiving nothing at GW…haha. I don’t think it would be smart to get 200k in debt although I’d probably foolishly do it in a heartbeat…
