Tote Bag or Backpack

I've never carried a backpack for school. Usually I carry a messenger or large tote bag; backpacks are uncomfortable to me no matter the brand. What would you advise for college? I'm heading to a mid-sized college in a few weeks and I really don't have many large books. I'd primarily be carrying around my super light laptop and a couple of books. Which would you recommend?Any particularly durable brands? I'm a girl btw thanks!

Really? I always preferred backpacks over totes or messenger bags. The one strap bags would always hurt my shoulder whereas the backpack straps share the weight on both sides and I feel more balanced. If backpacks are so uncomfortable, then I suppose you could still continue using your tote bag instead.

Backpack. Sometimes you have to walk all the way to the other side of campus for class so you’ll want something comfortable.

I would go with a backpack

You’ll definitely want a backpack for walking around a college campus. They’re much stronger than tote bags!

Backpack. Easily.

It depends how heavy those books are. I prefer carrying a backpack personally as the weight distribution is better. Carrying a tote always was annoying b/c the books would weigh it down and the strap would hurt my one shoulder. The backpack doesn’t feel heavy like the tote and is easy on my back and shoulders…
All I carry is a laptop, couple of books, and a binder.

Backpack. Specifically get this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Oakley-Kitchen-Sink-Pack-Black/dp/B001N3JZ0E/ref=sr_1_70?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1312602874&sr=1-70

Bookbag. Messengers and totes make my shoulder and back hurt. And walking around campus with one shoulder strained and the most awkward weight distribution would kill me.

Backpack 100%. It’s better on your back, carries more, and offers greater protection and security for your books/laptop. It also helps that you can run with on should you be late for class.

I wasted a whole semester running a shoulder bag, felt and looked like a tool, plus it was uncomfortable as hell. Getting the backpack (Oakley) was like moving from a Ford to a Bentley.
