Touchy question

"wx, i read where you stated that you are heavily involved in your church activies, as well as an eagle scout. I would highly recommend not writing an essay about being gay, because as an eagle scout, you clearly have lied in the past about being 'morally straight.' Just my two cents, but any adcom familiar with the scouting program will think twice about your character if you have consistantly lied to people about that."

I disagree with the above advice.

The OP may have only recently realized/accepted the fact that he is gay.

He may have have disagreed with the scout's stance on homosexuality, particularly their equating being gay with bad morals.

His being gay and an Eagle Scout could be an example of how conflicted his life has been, and why he wishes to go to a college noted for being more accepting of gay people.

The fact still remains that he has lied to the Scouting program. How can you assume that these lies will not affect him? As a scout myself, i would be very upset that he is gay, not because i do not like gays, but that he has consistanly lied in an organization based on morals and character. If the scouting program doesn't like gays in their organization, then fight it in the courts, but dont go around lieing about it.

Maybe you'd be upset about it, but that doesn't mean the liberal adcom would be.
