I am currently living in Texas. In Texas we have this program where I can automatically be accepted to a public college if I am in the top 10%. I just got my transcript back and it turns out I am rank 44 which is top 6%. I am a sophomore and I really want to maintain this rank or make it become better. The class I am most worried about is Spanish 4 AP. Now let me start by saying that Spanish is not my passion. It is just a language I want to learn so I can have better opportunities later on. However I learned that Spanish 4 AP is a very difficult class in my school. Most students receive an 85 average or lower. I am thinking about dropping out of the class. I still have time since the class won't start until January (block Schedule). I never dropped out of a class before and it will actually give me a sick feeling knowing that i quit out of a class without even trying. But top 10% is important to me and I really want to be accepted to UT which requires top 8%. I don't want to be out of top 8% just because of Spanish. What would you guys do in this situation?

What’s more important to you? Getting into UT? Or not backing down from a challenge?

If Spanish isn’t your passion and you see no use for it in the future, then drop it. If you believe that you can do well in spanish and find use for it later as well as be able to secure top 8 percent then do it.

But if you know for a fact that you will not be able to do well in it and that you are going to have a tough time staying top 8 percent then just drop it.

Drop. It. Now.
