Tough Decision

I'm a junior, living in Martin County, Florida. I used to live in Knoxville, TN and still have a lot of friends there. My stats:

UW GPA: 3.86
W GPA: 4.6

All other Honors
Spanish I-III
AP Human Geography - 3 (freshman)
AP World History -4 (sophomore)
AP Psychology - 4 (sophomore)
AP Environmental Science - 4 (sophomore)
Courses taking currently:
AP Stat
AP US History
AP Eng: Lang & Comp
AP Bio
Plan on taking:
AP Macroeconomics
AP US Gov
AP English: Lit
AP Chem

EC: SGA Parliamentarian, NHS SGA Rep, Class SGA Rep, All community service projects involved with NHS, Envirothon captain, good essays, National Merit Semifinalist, work at Veterinary Clinic on weekends & full time during summer

As for standardized testing, haven't officially taken SAT or ACT, though am registered for two SAT dates and one ACT. My math is lower than I'd like, but my english is superb and I never have problems getting over 1300 on practice tests. Not really planning on taking Subject Tests.

That's just for reference though. I know so many people going to University of Tennessee - Knoxville and I really want to go there (growing up near the campus). I hear jokes all the time that my safety school is my first choice. I'd be shocked if UT didnt accept me with my current stats. I know they have a huge veterinary program there (which is my foremost interest), but there are better vet schools.

Am I ruining my chances at getting into a good graduate vet school by going to UT for my undergrad? I'm really interested in Vandy and Tufts too (although my stats don't 100% guarantee me admission). Just looking for some friendly advice. Lurked around for awhile, this being my first post.

A mom---this class of 2007 found that their safeties were not necessarily safeties. There were many well qualified students applying, especially in light of the common application. Our state university had over 5000 applicants with perfect 2400 SATs--and 2/3 of the 4.0UW students were rejected.

Some of the schools require SAT IIs-you might check to see if that is the case at Vandy & Tufts.

You have worked hard, and are obviously willing to take the most demanding classes offered. You are a strong candidate for the schools you are interested in-w/the caveate that you nail your SATs and APs.

You might also check with the grad.Vet school programs you are interested in attending, and asking where a majority of their accepted applicants come from, and what they think of the schools you are interested in attending, and if they may know of other schools you should be looking at.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the info. I thought my thread was doomed.
