Ok, so since I'm going to be transferring again.....getting the dean's recommendation seems to be quite difficult. I transferred but came back after a hiatus of one semester but am definitely planning on leaving again, but I know getting this isn't going to reflect a positive look on me. Should I ask another dean, say, of student services, or try yet another dean? Anyone have any ideas on how to approach this with a positive feedback/recommendation?

I believe the "Dean's recommendation" for most schools is really just more of a statement that you haven't gotten into trouble or something than a recommendation in the sense of "teacher recommendation". I don't know about the Dean at your college, but the Dean at my first college said that his job is to make sure us students are where we'll benefit most, whether that be at his institution or another... I guess if I were you I'd just approach him as honestly and humbly as possible. "I made a mistake the first time. Although this is a fine institution, I still believe it's not right for me. I have matured and this time I have a much better idea of where I should be, because I've done research and Y, Z." Something like that. Just a suggestion, of course...

Yeah, IA with escape. Since the Dean doesn't know you as well as a professor, colleges aren't expecting them to say too much about you personally. They're just looking for the dean to say that you haven't gotten into trouble and if you have, a very good excuse as to why.
