tough to get into comm/business?

I'm currently an undeclared social science at UCLA... is it hard to go from that to communications or business econ. at UCLA?

For comm, you'll need to get as many lower divs done with as high of a gpa as you can muster. Seriously, they just take a certain (low) number of people with the highest gpas and as long as you have the lower divs (i dont know how many exactly) youre in. It's a very, very selective major. Usually need at least a 3.8, preferrably a 3.85 or higher. And yet really not hard once you're in.

I can't really speak for bus econ, but its super impacted too. However I don't think they're quite as hardcore about gpa as comm.

i'm really scared that I'll go to UCLA as an undeclared and never get out of that major... AHHH!

allie,

How hard are the lower division classes for Comm??

When you sign up spring quarter, will they be waiting to look at your spring quarter grades or just your fall and winter grades? (I'm a first year). I've only taken Psych 10 at a cc and I'm planning on taking Comm 10 and Ling 1 spring quarter...so if they only look at fall and winter then I've only taken one prereq =/

And I know they said something about not taking really easy classes...so do they only look at gpa or do they look at your courseload with your gpa?

They will wait until after your spring quarter grades are in. Since you submit your information on the application, all they will do is look at your DPR. The department also recommends that you don't take more than four lower div classes - just in case you don't get into the major. I think you're fine as long as Psych 10 is on your DPR.

They discourage you from taking easy classes like air pollution or the aids and stds class or a heavy load of music classes. So yes, they do look at course load.

Not to worry... all Undeclared majors have to declare a major after the end of their second year.

Do they usually encourage or discourage you to use AP tests to clear pre-reqs? For example, would they like it if you used AP Psych to clear the Psych 10 class?

maria's back to cc! aHAha.

haha, lillian! it's only because i don't want to study for finals...
