Tough year for admissions isn't it

At least people at your school apply to competitive schools. I think I was the only student from my school to apply to any competitve school (Yale EA). I think it's cuz I live in Idaho and everyone here is pretty content with going to a state school.

All I've heard is deferrals and rejections; one of my close friends got into Princeton and one into Hopkins, but that's it.

2/2 cornell
1/1 barnard
1/1 princeton
7/7 UVA
0/6 UGeorgia (????!)
and a few to VaTech

4/14 - Tufts
4/13 - Harvard
4/9 - MIT
0/7 - Brown
1/5 - Columbia
0/4 - Dartmouth
2/3 - Duke
1/3 - UVA
2/3 - WUSTL
1/3 - Cornell
0/3 - UPenn, Georgetown, Weslyan
0/2 - Stanford

Eh

I must admit that my school is having one of its best years in the ED/EA admissions pool. Although I am not too clear on the exact ratio of accepted to deferred to rejected, I do know about those who were accepted into top colleges. BTW, I attend an international school in China.

Harvard - 1
UPenn Wharton - 1
NYU Stern - 2
Georgetown - 2
Carnegie Mellon - 1

I don't think I can stress enough how I proud I am of my class of 2006!

3 Stanford
1 Harvard
1 Yale
2 U Penn

roadrunner24k, impressive list!

As a students who graduated last year, I can tell you that the statistics which you are seeing are rather consistent with last year. Most of my friends last year applied to Ivy league schools ED and were rejected. By the time spring came around only a handful of students were going to Ivy league schools, and the majority ended up going to top LACs.

my school is the opposite :). we're not doing fantastic, but much better than last year.

My school is different from last year most definately. But its more because of the kids than the schools. My class has better stats than most of last year's class here but none really tried ED/A for any school. Only one kid applied to UVA and was deferred and another to a school in IL and was accepted. I was the only other person to apply early and was rejected from Stanford. And I'm the only one trying at any Ivy at my school. While one kid is trying for Carnegie Mellon. We have a pretty smart class with good stats and great ECs but no one is ambitious.

My schools doing pretty well ED:
2/4 Yale, 1/1 Princeton, 6/7 Penn (At least one going into Wharton [the only one I talked to]), 0/1 Columbia, 1/1 Cornell, 1/1 Duke, 1/1 Swarthmore, and 5/5 John's Hopkins that I know of.

also 5 are going to GW and one to F&M, Lafayette, and Bryn Mawr

my nj school's results:

3/5 Datrmouth
4/7 Princeton
0/2 Harvard (both deferred)
0/5 Columbia (all deferred except one who was rejected)
0/4 UPenn (everyone deferred)
0/3 Cornell (one rejected 2 deferred)
2/6 Stanford (one of acceptances recruited for crew, 4 rejected)
1/2 William and Mary
3/3 NYU
0/3 Yale (all deferred including same girl recruited for crew)
2/2 colgate

also 2 into bc, 1 in american (soccer), 1 in lafayette (soccer), 1 in emory honors program

oh yeah one of the dartmouth girls was recruited for track

Tough year for aspiring Stanford kids, wow, I hope some of those deferrals turn in fat envelopes for you guys, good luck.

EDIT, wait, you can get recruited for Track? Snd so many Crew recruits! Next thing you know, we'll have a Cricket recruit ;)

Is it really significantly tougher, or does it just seem so because the last anyone heard of the class of 2005 was the regular decision rounds? Lots of people in my HS applied to colleges that were far beyond their reach ED, hoping that the ED dedication to the school would push them over the edge (it didn't!)

I went the opposite route and applied to my 2 best match schools (BC and GTown) Early Action and I'm now holding 2 acceptance letters. Any juniors reading this, I would strongly recommend you find an EA school or two to apply to where you'll be happy and probably accepted.

"Cricket recruit" thats right up my alley. I may be a girl but I love cricket and I'm pretty good at bowling but not so good at batting.

It does seem to be a bad year for Stanford. In the stats they said EA admits were down by 3% or something like that from last year.

My school is in NO WAY competative at all. I got the Highest SAT in my whole class of 131 with a 1270.

The Validictorian got an 1180.

I got into Penn State
another kid got into Grove City College (which is a bit more selective) one girl got into Pitt.

Another girl got into Dusquane but that's really not a top-tier school. I'm pretty excited to have gotten into the TOP -Ranked school out of anyone. Most kids will probably go to Pitt and PSU BRANCH campuses, or places like Slippery Rock.

so I guess you could say I am the top student at my School. (at least the student that got into the TOP school, out of my seinor class).

My high school got screwed too. Last year, we had 2 go to Stanford (One got a full ride because she made the Olympics for table tennis), 1 go to MIT, 2 go to Harvard (One of them got a $165000 grant to work for the government while in high school. . .crazy.)
This year, 6 people were deferred from Stanford, 1 from MIT, 1 from Harvard. The stats this year were better than last years, too.
But truthfully, I wasn't too surprised nobody got in SCEA this year. . .It's just like the banana person said, stats don't really matter anymore at HYPSM. The main reason for this, I believe, is that 1550+ and 800 SAT II's are AVERAGE. The only thing that sets the applicant apart is the intangible stuff.
Which is why I think i'm screwed. My parents have made me work on SAT's and crap, so I don't have any big hooks. This is going screw me. Especially if it's going to be more competitive next year. Yeah. . .I'm just complaining. . .

my school

Harvard- 2 accepted 1 deferred
Yale- 1 rejected
Columbia- 1 accepted
Cornell- 2 deferred
UPenn (wharton)- 1 rejected
Brown- 1 accepted 1 deferred
GTown- 1 accepted
Duke- 1 Deferred (me)
Brandeis- 1 accepted
Middlebury- 1 accepted

11 people got into Princeton from my town, counting only this year
2 for NYU
3 for Georgetown
1 cornell
7 people deffered from Yale

NOW, THIS IS ONLY EARLY DECISION!!! WOAH!!
