so i have had a tough year with something really bad happening to my family and it was during a big project for my calc bc class. i missed it and my teacher won't let me make it up. i have all As but might end up with a D or C in this class. i know the situation seems stupid but do you think i'll get rescinded for this? i'm trying my best to get to at least a C but i know for a fact i won't get a B. please reply!!

I don’t think they’d rescind for one D if the rest of your grades are A’s. Would your guidance counselor vouch for you that you had family stuff going on that interefered with your performance in that class? That would be good to have as a backup if Cornell starts asking questions. Perhaps they could include an explanation with your final transcript.

From what I’ve heard, schools usually ask for an explanation before rescinding, but I could be wrong. Writing a letter could help explain what happened, and especially if you did well on the AP Calc exam, it’d show you did poorly because of a special circumstance and that it won’t occur again in college.

If you manage to pull of a C, you should be fine. I have never heard of Cornell or any college for that matter, rescinding for just one C. Getting a D may require an explanation but I wouldn’t worry: The worst that will happen is that Cornell will ask for an explanation and/or put you on academic probation.
