what are some of the hardest essay questions you all have faced?

free topic(broadest topic ever)

Free topic is easy to answer. The hardest would probably by the one's on UChicago's Uncommon Application.

i'm hopelessly uncreative, so for me it was John's Hopkins', how would you plan a day if you had $10.

I second the $10 essay...I'd say that the Why (this college)? essays aren't particularly the hardest, but probably the most annoying and the most difficult to make original. If you want a good Why ___? essay, you really need to do some research and talk to some students.

Other than that, most of them are evaluate a significant experience, tell us someone who was inspired you, open ended and that's about it.

Northwestern's app. the entire thing...

None of my essays were hard.

"Why is ____ the wrong school for you."

(Hypothetical)

I wasn't a huge fan of Amherst's obscure quotes, but hey.

Submit page 217 of your 300 page autobiography. It is too broad, what am I supposed to say? I am a 57 year old man, married with two kids. I am very successful because I attended Duke University. I mean come on.

^ Actually, i kinda like that one. Is that for the duke supplement or something?

Lol "I am very successful because I attended ___ University." (I don't want it to seem like I'm laughing at Duke; I'm not, it's just funny. Nice one!

I know Penn has that one.

no its not for duke its for upenn

I just submitted a personal essay I had already done. I didn't really take it as a "How would going to Penn change your future?" question.

u chicago...probably the hardest questions

Why Hamilton...
I found no difficulty dealing with Why Oberlin, Why Kenyon, but Hamilton... urgh.

"how would you plan a day if you had $10?" >>> That actually sounds like a really fun question to answer...Seriously, I would love to write that essay.

Really, I don't think essays are that difficult but I guess...

"Why do you deserve this scholarship?" is the most difficult question. You have to make yourself seem deserving of the scholarship without bragging or simply listing your achievements. It's somewhat hard to be creative.

i second the "why do you deserve this scholarship" choice. but i also found the short answer northwestern essays hard enough to convine me not to do the app. i guess im just not creative.

hands down the free response. probably the most fun once you get going, but definetly the hardest because you have to come up with the PERFECT thing and then it gives you the most anxiety because you never know if what you chose would be good enough. Something obscure like that autobiography one would be pretty hard too.
