A significant number of colleges on my list are ones that are on the other side of the country.
I've heard that some colleges will actually pay for your travel expenses when you come to tour their school. This would be handy considering how fast those expenses can add up, even if you make it into one singular trip.

My question is, how does one go about requesting this from a school? Or do schools offer this to you when scheduling a visit?
I understand that the need for financial aid must be demonstrated in either case (or at least I assumed this ... is it a need-blind offer?)

Thank you for any help!

i'd love to know too

Perhaps this only occurs for students who have already been accepted and are getting a full ride.

I've only heard of this happening for recruited athletes who plan on making their "official visit," which I believe they are granted five schools they can visit on the school's dime. Or for other students who are accepted and/or the university REALLY REALLY REALLY wants to attend their school.

I only know of a few cases. Sometimes URMs are provided travel for multicultural weekends. Hamilton College has subsidized travel if you are from Texas, Oklahoma, or South Carolina (restrictions set by donor of this fund). Carleton will pay half airfare (up to $200) for accepted students if they are National Merit semifinalists.
