I'm going to be vacationing in Boston this year and our vacation home is near tufts. My parents say they want me to start looking at colleges, and I told them that I might be interested in Tufts. They want me to take a tour of the campus while I'm on vacation, but... I'm just a rising soph. We might not be up in the area again, but I'm thinking it might be too early to do stuff like this... Are the tours, like, directed for rising seniors, or should I take it anyway?

It’s never too early! I actually saw some freshmen at various college tours that I went to. I would definitely go. It’s a great experience and truly is one of the only ways to get a feel of what the campus is like. It’ll be worth it.

It certainly isn’t a problem. Tours tend to have mostly juniors and seniors with a smattering of siblings, but no one cares what grade you are in. The biggest problem with looking at campuses in the summer is that it can be hard to imagine what they are like with students. Also if you have strong feelings about having a critical math of certain types (preppies, jocks, goths, long hair whatever) - you won’t be able to judge that. You will get a good sense of how big the campus is, what the surrounding area is like, how easy it is to get into Boston.

You don’t have to go on a tour either if you don’t want to! Just walk about campus yourself, and let admissions know that you dropped by; I’m sure they’ll put a note in a file somewhere. I don’t know if Tufts cares about “interest,” but it never hurts.
