Tower B?

hi so im deciding between pitt and another school and if i go to pitt i really want to live in tower b! but i probably wont have my decision until like early april? will i not get my first choice for housing?

Hi hgoldstein1,

Pitt’s housing office, Panther Central, assigns all incoming freshmen to their housing at once. This process is allows them to accommodate as many people as they can. This process is NOT first-come-first-served, so as long as your housing deposit is paid before the deadline, you will have as good a chance as every other freshmen at getting your first choice in housing.

Sent in deposit 2 weeks ago, still waiting to receive housing packet from Pitt. Does anyone know when the housing deposit deadline is?

Pittadvisor,

How good is the Pitt process for matching room mates? My daughter is trying to decide whether to try and find someone through facebook or rely on the Pitt mastching process.

rocknroll52 - The following link has most of the information about housing deadlines and such, but doesn’t give a specific housing deposit deadline. The deadline should be included in the housing information packet. If you’d like to speak with the housing office, Panther Central, their number is 412-648-1100.

robinsongirl - I actually don’t have any experience with the matching process myself (I’m a commuter), but I’ve heard both good and bad about the process. Some people have made great friends with the person they were matched with, but some people have had problems with the people they were matched with.

thanks for that number, peer advisor! I was able to find out that our housing packet is “in the mail” and deposit deadline will be May 1 for us.

The person in the housing office also confirmed that everyone who submits a housing deposit by their assigned deadline (which depends on the date the enrollment deposit is sent in) is randomly assigned a lottery number. Housing is then assigned based on best lottery number and preferences.

So - for Pitt it seems like there is no particular advantage to depositing early- unlike Penn State, for example, where the housing is assigned in the order that deposits are received.

we just did the housing application and I thought I would let you know that there is no way to request Tower B specifically. You can only request a “tower double” which would be either Tower A or Tower B.

Last year when my son did the housing packet I was surprised at how few questions they asked to determine compatability.

I believe they were basically neat.sloppy, time to be, how you like to study, smoker - maybe 6 questions tops.
