The West Tower Parking garage (for towers 1 and 2) fills up much quicker than the East (for Towers 3 and 4). My daughter went early in the morning on the first day that you could pay last year and she got a spot on the first floor.

DD got a spot on the first floor of the West garage!

Anyone else get their tower’s reserved spots yet? I was wondering how fast they were filling up this year. The first floor of the garages have numbers up to about 1111 I believe. Above that, you are parking on the ramp (a big pain since your on an angle and there is more traffic). The second floor numbers are 20XX, third floor 30XX etc.

I got an awesome spot on the second floor. I went to go check it out :]
I was bummed that I didn’t get first floor but that’s okay. Perhaps I need that little jog on the stairs :]

From the school website:

Fall 2009 Housing Available
A limited amount of rooms are available in the Towers at Knights Plaza for fall 2009. Students who would like to live in the Towers that do not already have housing on or off campus should add their name to the standby list.

My son was just accepted for summer 2010.We took the UCF tour but not the housing tour.In looking at the photos it looks like he would like living in the towers.I am sure he would like having his own room. The one concern that he has is that he wants to make sure he is living with other Freshman. As a freshman is it better to live in the towers or one of the Freshman only dorms? If he chooses the towers will he be assigned to a room with other freshman or could it be upperclassman

I think they try to put a lot of the freshman together. I know that I see this, especially in the Honors Towers, as so many freshman coming in request Tower 3. However, I know that one of my S’s friends, who decided to stay in Towers for his junior year, is there with one jr. friend that he signed up with and a sophomore and a freshman. When S’s friend went to sign up for returning housing, he and only one of his former roommates went down together to sign up together and make sure they were in the same room. But, there were two slots left available in that room, so they ended up getting two kids they didn’t know who happened to be freshman and sophomore. I don’t think they go out of their way to put a freshman w/ two juniors. It’s probably more like, “well, we have a few slots left … and a frew more people who want Towers (later at applying then others), so they’ll get what they get.” S was in Towers his first two years, and he always had same grade in his room. Freshman year … all freshman in Towers 3. Sophomore year, 3 roommates went down together and picked up a 4th roommate from another Towers suite who wanted to switch into their suite (they had lost a roommate because he flunked out), and so the 4 of them were there together to sign up and pick their new suite. So … he never had mixed grades.

Hi,
Do you know when your son exactly (like a month/date) applied for summer 2010?

My daughter has lived in Tower 1 for the past two years. Last year, as a freshman, her Tower’s apt mates were a freshman, sophomore and a junior. That said, she is in a 4/4 apt (not 4/2) and those are more likely to be returning students because they are in high demand and there are only 3 such apt. on each floor. She told me that most of the 4/2 apts were freshman.

^ Hi, how does your daughter like it at UCF? Is she happy with the faculty/program for her major? I am an OOS parent, thanks.

Well, you didn’t ask me, but I’ll throw in my .02. My daughter is a senior and we are from IL. She started as a freshman in the Apollo dorms (LEAD scholars) in a 4 person suite (2 in a bedroom sharing a bathroom. She then moved to another dorm (still in Apollo)that was apt. style. She didn’t want to live in the towers b/c they were too far from the rec center. Also, when she started, there was nothing on that side of campus. She is a hospitality major and has had an excellent experience. Professors were fine (never formed a bond with any one prof) Didn’t like that most of her moajor classes were at the Rosen campus (never moved there b/c too quiet and removed). Feels likes she actually learned something.

We did have to drive her down freshman year with a ton of stuff.

We have found cheap flights from Orlando to Chicago almost every time she wanted to come home (she flew in for the superbowl when the bears played (really badly) in it).

The Towers used to be the only dorm that has a 12 month lease (except for a 1 or 2 weeks?) So, be sure to check on that if your student is thinking of coming home for the summer - it would suck to try to find someone to sub-lease.

She rented a storage unit to store her stuff in for the summer.

She does have a car, but has never driven home - always flies or dad flies down and drives home with her.

Also, UCF has a requierment that every student take 9 hours of summer school. However, my daughter was able to get this waived - no problem.

If you have any other questions, PM me.

Does anyone know when current students living in dorms sign up for next year’s housing?

My son got in for summer and wants the towers for Fall- he wants to be with other freshmen- has anyone gotten in yet that is going summer session?

You cannot sub-lease your Towers apt for the summer. If you are not staying for the summer you can pay a penalty fee and get out of your lease (DD’s roommate did that last summer).

My daughter loves UCF and is very comfortable in the Towers. She is a Health Science major and it is very demanding. She has liked most but not all of her professors. The science depts seem to have a lot of foreign professors who are competent but have such thick accents that they are difficult to understand. She tries to get to these classes early and sits in the front. The Physics and Chemistry depts are loaded with “English as a second language” professors. She relies on rate my professors (the website) when chosing classes to ensure that the professor is at least understandable. She joined a sorority as a freshman, something that she originally said that she would NEVER do, and she is very happy with her social life.
I highly recommend the Towers. The location is great on the northeast side of the campus. She loves having her own parking spot in the garage next to the dorm and of course, it is well located on game days!
