Could someone give me the lowdown on these dorm choices from a freshman engineering student perspective? (Forbes would be for the engineering living community (SPACE), Sutherland for the honors housing) Any details on size of rooms, amenties, vibe, distance to most classes? When we visited over the summer, we only saw Towers rooms and all I remember hearing was that it is more of the party/louder dorms. Sutherland looks like suites but I'm a little confused about what exactly that means. Thanks!

Sutherland has mostly suites. One arrangement has four bedrooms (eight students) who share two bathrooms. There are also a few other room configurations. There is a cafeteria in Sutherland, but not Forbes. Since both Forbes and Sutherland will be new arragnements this fall, it is hard to compare them. Good luck.

Forbes and Sutherland are both great choices from what I hear. D lived in forbes this year as an honors student and thought the walk was fine. Forbes is like living on a Main Street so to speak…you walk by fedx, Panera, DDonuts, Campus clothing stores and book stores to name a few,and many more on the way to classes. Not a bad walk at all according to D. She has heard that it is very loud (socially? near the towers). the rooms in Forbes are huge as far as dorms go. Sutherland which will be the new honors dorms I have heard is very nice but closer to the sports activities and may not be exclusively Honors Students. Forbes are kind of mini suites with 2 bdrms of 2 students each and 1 powder rm…showers are traditional dorm style. If you are curious…other engineers live in the Honors Dorms. There might be Honors Perks…but maybe Space dorms have Perks I do not know about. Both dorms will have a lot of activities…Honors is not dull or nerdy according to D.
