Townhouses vs. Dorms

I don't know if I can request a dorm in my housing app (haven't looked over it yet), but when I went to Cornell earlier in the year for my overnight, I was impressed with the townhouses. Lots of room compared to other dorms in other schools, plus a private shower (and laundry room, no?).

However, I've read things about the townhouses alienating people in the school (well, they aren't as social. Sure, you have three other people to spend time with, but townhouses don't communicate with other townhouses as well as dorms communicate with other dorms, I've heard). I also assume that, because of the amount of space, there's a lot of pressure from friends to have parties in the townhouses.

I'm going to ILR next year, and it seems I'll have a big walk regardless of where I stay. Would you suggest the townhouses or the dorms?

No personal laundry room, but having a gigantic common living room is quite a luxury. People that live in the townhouses aren't really alienated since all freshmen live on North Campus anyway. It's tougher to meet new people at first since you don't have a floor with 100 people, but in the end it doesn't really matter. AFAIK you can't choose where you live and it won't matter where you end up.

You can choose the townhouses though.
