Towson vs. SUNY Binghamton

Hey everyone. So I recently got accepted into the Towson honors college, and I was set on going there. A few days ago I got into the Decker School of Nursing at Bing, and now I'm confused! I'm from New York, and I've been told that Binghamton has a much better reputation than Towson and it would be stupid for me to choose Towson over my own state school. However, there are many things about Towson that I like better (They have a football team, it's not as ridiculously cold there like Bing, the campus is much nicer, I would be in honors housing). My question here is does it make much sense to choose Towson? What are the benefits of going there over Bing? I don't want to make the wrong decision! I feel like I might be too concerned about the reputation of the schools. And my parents also want me to go to Bing..

One of the key factors you need to consider is that you will pay $10K-$11K more a year for going our of state to Towson. How you plan to pay for college and whether a football team and honors dorms is worth the extra cost is a decision you and your parents (if they are helping to pay for college) need to make. I don’t know how the two nursing programs compare, so I don’t know if one stands our better than the other. Looking at stats for accepted freshman, Binghamton clearly is drawing kids with better success in high school and on SAT’s. I have no bias to either school, but Binghampton would seem to have the edge based on cost and higher stats.

Bing is a better academic college. Only go to Towson for financial reasons. It is not bad college but not worth more than Bing in all honesty. Bing must have a pretty good nursing program because it is a popular major there.

I had been under the impression that Binghamton was very selective, however my opinion changed when a friend of my daughters was recently accepted with a 1540 sat (out of 2400) and a weighted hs average of 89 . I reside in New York and Binghamton is in the middle of no where, and the weather is probably the worst in the country, Towson has a beautiful campus and a vibrant town with great shopping and restaurants, and is also in close proximity to Baltimore harbor and many other universities (John Hopkins, James Madison, Loyola, Goucher, UMD). I don’t know too much about Binghamton’s nursing program but TU’s nursing program has a very good reputation so If money is not an issue, then I would choose Towson. You will find gainful employment in this field regardless of what school you choose, it all depends on what you’re looking for.

Towson is very very close to two hospitals (GBMC & St. Joes). Their Honors Program is great and it has a good rep for nursing. The campus is beautiful and the food was the best at any college we visited. Good luck!
