I ran track for the first time this year (10th grade) and I was an alright runner. Nothing special. My times aren't stellar or anything but they aren't terrible. I want to do cross country next year because I feel like I would be a much better distance runner. However, if I did cross country I would not be doing another season of track because of the time commitments. Will this look bad when applying to colleges?

That doesn’t make sense. Track and cross country don’t happen at the same time. There is no time conflict there, what are you talking about?

And it’s not going to matter one way or the other for your applications if you’re not going to run in college.

I know that they don’t occur at the same time. I just don’t have the time to practice every day after school, for the entire school year almost.

Go for XC, they will both be seen as running. If you switch from Track to XC, they will know you kept up with running just simply changed distances.
