Track and Feild

Hey I’m 15 and I’m a sophomore in highschool I just ran a 2:04 first leg in the 4x800 at my invitational yesterday and I’m sure I can repeat that my next race but how does that time match up to other sophomores nationally and by my senior year what times do u think I could run also do you guys think I could get noticed by a D1-D3 school possibly by then ? Btw I also run the 1600(4:55 P.R.) and 4x400(54s)

You can google collegiate track and field recruiting standards and most of them look like you probably need to get your 800 time below 1:58 at least. You will have to have it FAT timed in an open race, rather than a relay. Also look on tfrrs.org and look at the schools that you might be interested in and see what their athletes are running those events in. Generally, coaches will start talking scholarship if your performance would earn points in a conference meet, so look at those meet’s times in particular.

Unless you are the cream of the crop, you won’t get noticed by college coaches unless you make yourself noticed. In other words, email the coaches with your times and a link to an online profile or database of your times. Update the coaches as your times drop or if you are going to be in a meet near them. Good luck! Track and field is such a great sport!

@Davon330, next winter if you also run winter track start emailing coaches and completing school recruiting questionnaires at schools that you are interested in; if not winter track do it in the spring, but don’t expect coaches to come to you unless you are running top 10 times in your state.

Check athletic.net or milesplit to see how you compare to other 10th graders. You’ll see that, while those are decent marks, they are not at a level that would get interest from a college coach at this point. Your question about potential is difficult to answer because improvement can vary a lot for boys. Some improve a lot and some don’t. All you can do at this point is continue training and see where you are in a year. Your 1600 time would probably improve a lot with a year of training at decent mileage.

Male or female? If you are female - that 800 time is super fast and will certainly get noticed!

@wisteria100 definitely would be fast for HS female. I assume this is a boy though, as there are only a few HS girls in the nation capable of those times, and they already know how they compare
