Track and field recruitment

I am trying to fill out the recruiting questionnaire for women’s track and field, and it requires me
to report my records. Do the records need to be official or is it still valid to report unofficial records such as
records during training with my high school coach?
Additionally, what would be a competitive record for female high school senior to have to be recruited by Ivy schools?

PRs should be marks that you’ve hit in a meet. Here’s a rough idea of t&f recruiting standards in the Ivy League

What information did you send through email/social media? If he/she has not responded, you may not fit in their academic/athletic profile. My D is going through the same process and has had several schools interested, several not and some who have had my D on and off their radar. She recently called a couple and one apologized as my D’s emails were going to her spam folder (this school is very interested).

I say you have nothing to lose by calling. If they aren’t interested, they’ll tell you so and then you haven’t lost anything. If they are interested, it is unlikely they would be annoyed by one phone call, and if they are is that who you want as a coach? I really think the only ones who would annoy them would be parents calling.

@varska @FLWrestler123 If I do not technically satisfy the qualifying standard but is close, then should I give up getting recruited as athlete? Also, then would it help my admissions if I do not get recruited?

Agree with Varska- be tenacious!!! My son plays a different sport, but he called coaches relentlessly and it paid off. The coach for the school he is playing for was not all that interested at first, but my son just kept calling him constantly. I sometimes think the coach finally took a closer look at him just to get him off of his back, but as a result, my son is playing at his first choice school. The whole recruitment process can be pretty intimidating, so be prepared to be relentless!

Beanbean1– keep emailing or calling until a coach tells you to stop. Some coaches as a matter of preference may not communicate via social media (even though they may have a Facebook or Twitter site to communicate with the current team, fans and/or alumni). The coach is also likely very busy but not because classes start soon, because cross country has likely already started. At my son’s school, all fall athletes, including cross country, are already on campus and training at least two weeks before classes.

Continue to reach out to the coach for your event(s) as well as the head coach and/or a recruiting coordinator if one is listed. The worst that will happen is they tell you “don’t call us, we’ll call you” but if it is truly your dream school, don’t give up just yet. As others have said you can never really know what the coach is looking and the situation changes each year.

My D was just told she is a top recruit and has been offered an overnight visit and to apply early decision. She previously sent in her academic info but never received a formal response of pre-read results. Does the invite indicate that she has made it through to being slotted by the coach or is there something else we should read into it?

@mcr976, congrats - that’s good stuff! The fact that the OV is offered means the early read is good. But the OV invite by itself doesn’t mean she’s supported/slotted yet. Take the visit and find out exactly what the coach is offering before pulling the trigger on ED.
