Track and Field

So indoor track season is almost gonna start and im a freshman and i don't know what really happens there. My first question is there Tryouts or is everyone immediately on the team? What do you do at practices and typically how long to you stay there weekly? How are the competitonal meets ( process) and is everyone seen as an individual or does only the school points matter

Well, I saw the title, “Track” so I thought I could be of some help, but alas, no. I
m only on outdoor track, couldn
t tell ya a thing about indoor. But assuming they follow something similar to outdoor, everyone
s on the team automatically, it
s not a tryout thing.

Thanks anyway, I’m going to do spring track too so you could tell me about that

OK, well, for outdoor, same thing, no tryouts, everyone`s on the team. But not everyone goes to all the meets. Generally (at least in my district) everyone on the team goes to 2 or 3 meets during the season, and to see who goes to all the other meets, generally a week or two before each one, there are qualifying races we have…top 4 or 5 go.

Are you planning on sprinting or long distance? I can tell you about how practices go accordingly.

Or field we could tell you about field as well…

Yeah, sorry, only a runner, so I didn`t go there…

I’m going to do sprinting mostly 100m and 200m for spring. Not sure about the races of indoor but definitely sprinting and maybe hurdles

Ah, OK. So, what we normally do at practice is run a lap, warm up, then break off into long distance and sprinters. Sprinters usually either just do whatever if the coach was busy working with pole vaulters and hurdlers or we would do Indian runs, ladders, sprinting up hills, stadiums, or whatever for a while and then some push ups and stuff like that, and then for the last half hour, the whole team would go to the weight room and lift weights and then do sets of 15 push ups, 50 sit ups, 15 wide push ups, 50 bent legs, 15 diamond push ups…you get the point, until we had like 50 push ups and 200 sit ups or something like that.

Normally, all together for each day, we`d run 2-3 miles and do 75-100 push ups and 250-300 sit ups. Not all at once, of course.

:)

Oh, forgot to mention, I don
t know how long other school
s practices are, but at my school
s, it
s from 3:30-6:00
