Track At Berkeley

I was wondering about my friend's case.

He's pretty good at Track, we won a couple awards at state meets for 7th and 13th. He's also ASB President and was a Junior Class VP last year. He didn't do any other extracurriculars. Besides those, I believe. His grades are about a 3.2 unweighted, and weighted, less than a 4.0. His SAT scores are around 1100 on the new system. His coach said that he will have Berkeley "tag" his application for track. He thinks he's accepted into Cal now, is this the case? What does it mean to "tag"? Sorry I'm clueless!

Cal's track team is competitive enough that recruiting is tough, which means your friend must be really good. Since you didn't mention anything about recruitment, I'm assuming that the Cal coaches didn't offer him the scholarship to go. "Tag" probably does not mean much as opposed to "signing a letter of intent" (which is a gurantee, and binding agreement, unless under some special NCAA circumstances). It will give him a boost, but it's not guaranteed unless he's recruited.

He's not extraordinary, not on an national level or anything... prolly one of the top 15ish in Northern CA. He plans on dropping his math analysis class because he thinks he is guaranteed Berkeley.

u never drop a class.....after ur accepted......especially if u r not sure.
