Track&Field Recruiting Help

Hi, I'm a middle distance runner going into her junior year. A few months ago, I filled out some recruit questionnaires for the schools I was interested in, but my times have improved since then.

Right now, my PR's are:
56.38 in the 400
2:14.08 in the 800
and 19:27 in XC

I also run AAU track in the summer; In the AAU Junior Olympics last week, I placed in the top 8 in both the 400 and 800m.

Do you think I have what it takes to run for a D1 school? How should I go about this recruiting process?

Hey, congrats - those are some great times you’re putting up as a rising Jr.
Track and Field recruiting tends to take place a little later than some other sports. College coaches are really going to base things off your junior season unless you’re an over-the-top-phenom.

In my opinion, mid 55’s in the 400 and sub 2:12 in the 800 will generate interest from a lot of D1 programs. This fall, investigate some schools and send emails to the coaches introducing yourself and listing PR’s and grades. As your Jr. year progresses, you’ll be able to update them. Things will heat up from a recruiting standpoint next summer and fall.

But a little word of caution is in order here. In any given year, a fully funded D1 track program might have about 4 women’s track scholarships available to cover the incoming recruits, xc and t&f. So there are a lot of partials and walk-ons. A lot of coaches want you to earn your way to scholarship $ after you are on the team.

If your academics are top notch, it opens up a lot more possibilities for you.

Varska - where did your website go?

It’s alive and well, I think: www(dot)tier1athletics(dot)org

OP–I am assuming you are female? How far are your XC races? If you are male, however, you have no chance getting recruited by D1 schools with those times :D.

@varksa- Thank you, I will continue my research and email some coaches.
@SteveMA- I’m a female, and the XC races are 5k.
