Track recruiting???

Hey guys,
a funny thought just occured to me. I'm currently a junior in Germany, but I spend my last year as an exchange student in Ohio and I ran track for the varsity team. This year I can probably run 11.4 on 100m, and I thought this would be sooooooo terrible for college standards, and actually it is. However, I just looked at the Harvard section, and their 100m dashers all ran like 11.4s or even something in the 12s. Thats horrible for college standards. Now I am thinking about running track this year in Germany. Wut do u guys think, can I get recruited with a 11.4??? It would be a major hook right, if I get recruited I mean??

Tom

No, unfortunately as far as I am aware, 11.4 is not elite enough for the coach to want to recruit you. I am a distance runner, but I do know that a male sprinter would have to be well into the 10s (or at least in the 10s) in the 100m to even get the coach's attention. No offense to you, because 11.4 is a very respectable time! It is just not elite enough to warrant admissions solely on athletics. However, the fact that you run an 11.4 in conjunction with your academic and other qualities may look good to the admissions officers. If you get in, you could always try to walk on the team.

Well, I hope this helps!

Well... this makes a lot of sense. But I wonder why all the Harvard sprinters suck so bad?? They probably didnt get recruited, did they???
Well... how about the soccer team? R there trials for prospective recruiters???

You could at least mention it to the coach. 11.4 is not a great time, but it is fairly good, and Harvard's track team is really bad. It couldn't hurt.

u kno... that's what I thought... It's definitely not a good time, but the Harvard track team does really seem to do bad... However, it is possible that none of them got recruited, but merely joined the team after they got in anyway...
