I just joined track today (yay!)
but i have a question for you track people.
What type of shoes do i need to buy?!?! (gym shoes, shoes w/ spikes, etc.)
im getting them tomorrow and i dont want to get the wrong ones. thanks in advance :)

You should go to a running specialties store. Usually they’ll have a knowledgeable runners/staff members who will tell you what kind of shoes you need based on your running form. For example, they may have you walk on a treadmill and see if you overpronate or not, and then based off of that give you a variety of shoes.

^ehh..sounds expensive. i kind of have a spending limit…

…as far as just running shoes…get some running shoes that you feel comfortable in…but for spikes, you should talk to your coach before getting any…it depends whether you are a distance runner or a sprinter..if you are a distance runner you may want to even get cross country spikes…but def. find out because spikes can be kind of expensive..

^thanks.
yeah im going to be a long-distance runner but definitely not cross country.

You need trainers (for practice) and spikes (for meets).

For trainers, Asics are the best brand. You can find these at a track and field store; some sporting goods stores might also sell these.

Dunno about spikes though.

Remember, depending on your event, your looking for the lightest shoe with the best support.
** Some tracks (like the one at this year’s NJCTC’s) require a specific type of spike, so check with your coach before buying. You can get extra spikes at your local sporting goods store.
*** Spiked shoes are event-oriented. Check with your coach.

Price isn’t a concern for trainers. This is the fourth season for my Asics and their still going strong.

[dyestat.com Track Talk](http://www.talk.dyestat.com/index.php?)

get an account there and ask away. its the running people’s equivalent of cc.

^thanks and thanks ![]()
ill be running the mile and 2 mile.
at the meet they said something about the spikes not being the right size & being disqualified so…

your spikes can only be so long, but it varies by location
your coach would know the size you need
