I've been thinking for months and I'm now leaning more towards trade school than college. I've been accepted into NJIT and William Paterson but I'm honestly not interested in any majors. I've never been able to stand sitting down on a computer typing for hours or doing extensive math in a cubicle. I understand theses are a majority of many people's "dream jobs" in business and engineering but I have no interest in any of that. My grades are highest in History (I've had a 95 average since 7th grade), English, and I took criminal justice 101 at my community college and I had a 95 average in that. Everything else I'm average in about 82 to an 85 in every other class.
I've always enjoyed working with my hands and in general I'm a hands on person. My dad currently owns two successful electrical contracting companies and he is making very good money better than many doctors and he never went to college, he went to trade school.
Everytime I tell somebody I want to become an electrician they give me the same stupid look on their face that says "WHY?" but what they say is "that's nice". I don't see what's wrong with it. Electricians in my area make $80,000 a year plus bonuses and health care. I don't know any bachelor degrees that can earn you that much right after you graduate.
Am i making a horrible decision here?
Will I regret not going to college or should I go for it and become an electrician?
I've been told why not get a criminal justice major but I'm a very quiet, reserved person, it really wouldn't fit with me. I want to be more than an electrician later, I plan on investing my money in things like real estate just like my father.

Let me know what you guys think because I'm lost.

I’m not trolling I want a real answer, what’s better?

If being an electrician is what you want, you should definitely do it! Trade school is a really practical option in a lot of ways, and if you think it would set you up for a future you will be happy in, with good pay and low debt, I think you should totally go for it. There’s no reason you can’t continue to enrich your interests in History and English by reading widely (your local library is your best friend here!) or by even taking some classes for fun at your local community college.

Best of luck :)

Do whatever you want. If you can support yourself, then who cares what anyone else thinks? You have to live your life. Not them.

College will always be there if you ever decide that you ever want it or need it, and if you don’t want to go, then there’s no point in wasting your money on it.

I love your idea. My collegey, wonky English major hubby at this moment is out visiting with one of his favorite friends, a self-employed mason who lives a rich, full life of the mind. Bet they’re talking about their shared obsession, films, right now.

I think this is it then. I thought of doing finance before this but Math is my worst subject and I don’t like numbers so I would be very miserable. I’m also not very social like many people with finance jobs. I’ve always liked working with my hands so I think electrician is the way to go then.

If you want to be an electrician, then go to electrician school. When you are working, you can always start taking classes at your local community college.

What does your father say?

I think it sounds like a great idea. Take classes that interest you for fun, but also add business classes and plan to open up your own business or to help with your dad’s. I wish more kids woud consider the trades. You can make a nice living and not accumulate debt going to college just because everyone else is.

then go to trade school! you know what you want to do and it sounds like you have a great plan. by going to trade school and becoming an electrician, you’ll save alot of money in the long run and be more secure because you have a specific skill to offer. Good luck :)
