Trading Housing

Does anyone know how possible it is to trade housing with someone else (like if you've already found a person and everything?), and how to go about doing it. Is it possible to do it before making the initial payment at all?

I got De Neve plaza (triple) and I really can't afford a plaza. So I really need to get a residence hall. How likely is it that they do something about it because I really can't afford it.

I know a person usually makes the initial payment and then files for a CAR, but this thing is really affecting my decision to even attend UCLA. Fall admissions just reopened at SJSU, so I'm considering just staying home. Or going to a community college and then transferring.

Anyways, I'm going to call them first thing on Monday and request for any possible change to a residence hall. Any advice?

I don't think you should reject UCLA based on what is it, 2000 dollars difference. I mean I know that could be a lot of money, but I think that's worth taking loans out for if your alternative is san jose state (not that that's bad, but its just that UCLA is supposed to be one of the best, right?). If the housing makes that much of a difference in your plans, I think the school might be able to work something out for you. And if not, I say go here anyways.

It's not just the housing, I've been feel really guilty about UCLA in general because of the price tag.

What are the chances of me getting a residence hall if I just explain that I can't afford it. For some reason, it doesn't seem like a valid reason for me because there's no one I know that can actually afford college.

I remember going to a long meeting sometime during the first week of Fall quarter and being told that it was quite possible.

As long as you find someone that's willing to switch.

If I remember correctly, you two just need to go to the housing office in Sproul Hall and explain that you want to switch.

I would think you have a very good reason to get your housing changed so just tell them the truth and don't take no for an answer. If the first person tries to blow you off ask to speak to a supervisor or someone higher up. Be peristent...bug the .....out of them, don't take no for an answer! They are there to help you! Thousands are coming to UCLA in the fall so there's going to be lots of requests to switch and lots of people love De Neve from what the threads say. As to the cost of going to UCLA, it's a bargain compared to what some of my friends are going to pay in private college. You're going to make better contacts and connections at UCLA and that's going to pay off later in life and if UCLA doesn't work for you it's not going to be a problem to transfer out. Getting in is the hard part.
