my son is a student, he got a ticket, "failure to obey highway sign" a prepayable ticket, he forgot to pay it, when he realized it he went online and paid it at twice the fee, immeditaley enrolled in driver improvment class, completed. He did not have to go to court but did not pay fine till after court date, can this cause him to go before the Honor Board? He is nervous.

he has no other traffic offenses

From what you are describing, no.

Even if he HAD intended to not pay the ticket (i.e. - steal), he ended up paying it of his own accord, so there was no theft involved.

I wouldn't sweat it. He made a simple mistake. Mids miss their credit card payments all the time and pay the financial penalties without getting booted for honor. Your son will be fine.

BTW, you say your son is a "student". Is he a Mid/Cadet, or a candidate? The Honor Code/Concept only applies to Cadets/Midshipmen.

Still, my answer stands. This is nothing.

he is a cadet. it states when you pull up the traffic offense guilty in absentism, he paiid online and when to driver improvememnt, no court appearance necessary. It states fine as $90.

He will only get in trouble from an honor perspective if he lies about it (verbally or in writing). It's no big deal so, if it ever comes up (on an application, etc.), he should acknowledge and explain it.

he did not lie about it he disclosed it and explained it, and a higher up is saying it is a lie because he did not go to court. ( know how a traffic ticket has a court date but is prepayable, he did not pay in time but has paid and went to driver improvement school for plus 5 points and did not have to show at court all handled on line.) It is really hard to focus on your studies when you made a mistake took responsibility for if, told about it did not hide it and you are said you "lied" I do not quite understand?

There is only so much we can tell you on this board. Based on what we know of USNA's system, if the situation were as described and had occurred at USNA, he should not have any serious issues. However, we aren't there (wherever your son is), don't have personal knowledge of all the facts of his sitation, and thus can only tell you what we believe based on our limited knowledge. Even with the facts, there's really not much we can do to help you here. Sorry.

Who is the "higher up"?

Commadant........

He thinks it is a problem, since he did not pay ticket before "court date" listed on ticket. It was a police standing out waving people over he waved a few my son was the only one who stopped, he got a ticket, failure to obey highway sign, for EX...ticket says you can prepay online, or show to court and fight it, he forgot to pay before said date, paid it when remembered when to drver school, and thought is was taken care of, he informed them of this, they did not find it out he told them

dotcomin, Are you sure you are at the correct website. This is for the United States Naval Academy. They don't have cadets, they have midshipmen. If your son is truly at the Naval Academy and is truly talking to the Commandant, I highly doubt that it is simply over the failure to pay a late traffic ticket. Get him to tell you the whole story.

Sorry, dotcom, but the story and the results do not correlate. What you describe is not an honor offense under any definition.

Also, I doubt the Commandant would be "accusing". He's got more important things to do, and would have either made the charge or referred it to the Honor Board, either action having been done in an official capacity.

Something is missing. Either this entire story is a sham, your son isn't telling you the whole story, you're not telling us the whole story, or we're missing something key.

Commandant is a "she". Class of 81. :)
