Tragic Problem: I can only attend the last session of CalSO, and it ain't my fault

My Asian mother wants me to go to China in the summer. No, she isn't "wanting" me to go, she's forcing me and the rest of the family to go, like all Asian mothers do. I seriously don't have a choice in this matter, and because of that I will not return to CA until the end of June.

Therefore, I can only go to the last two sessions of CalSO (june 29-30).. Will I not get into any of the classes I want because of this (CS61A, Math54, Econ 1, etc.)? Will all the easy profs be taken? Will my fall semester freshman year be direly miserable because of this? Is there any way at all to still be able to register early for my classes even though I will not be in the country (and it's not my darn fault!)?

It’ll be fine, don’t worry. You might be on waitlists, but there’s a VERY high chance you’ll end up getting into the class.

take some other classes then?

Math H54 appears to be less likely to fill up than Math 54.

I’d say you have a very good shot of getting into 61A, but I can’t speak for the other two classes. Still, it’s just your first semester so I wouldn’t worry too much. If you have to you can just sign up for other classes and take some of these in the spring. Just relax and enjoy your trip to China. :p

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I guess I was overreacting a bit. By the way, ucbalumus, would honors math54 be significantly harder than the normal course? I’m a hardworking and passionate learner, but I want to do my best to maintain a decent GPA.

problem but not tragic dw
