Train Derailment Cancels Some Service in Virginia Next Few Days

If anyone is taking Amtrak passing through Virginia or DC area this weekend for break, check your email for a notice from Amtrak. A freight train derailment has cancelled some of the routes, including some that were sold out. Another route may be available using a different track, but it will probably sell out fast.

If you call 8772319448, they can try to shift you to a different train.

They said they don't expect to have the track cleared for a few days.

Apparently the derailment was in West Virginia and is blocking the Cardinal train, which runs from the midwest to the east to Charlottesville Va and then to DC and then up the northeast corridor.

Amtrak trains that ONLY travel north-south apparently are not affected.

I’m glad that I decided to book in the morning with the Northeast Regional! Now at least I have excuse for missing my friday classes :)
