Tranferring from NYU to Cornell. Please give opinions as I would very much like them.

Hi I am an NYU freshman currently enrolled in the College of Arts and Science. I really want to transfer to Cornell CALS for a biological sciences and have wanted to go to Cornell for a while (i applied there e.d. but got rejected). I have taken the prerequisite courses.

here are my stats.

Current GPA: 3.69 (low i know)
hopefully i can bring it to a 3.8 next semester.

High school record : rank 4/367
5.01 GPA weighted
3.78 unweighted

took 15 AP classes total, 8 in senior year

SATS: 2070./2400 or 1360/1600

E.c's in college : research at anthropology lab, 4 day volunteer program called Project Outreach, psychology club, AMSA, bioethics club,

e.c's in high school: won states for medical procedures for business club, v.p. of chess club, v.p. of medical science club, secretary of ecology club

What are my chances? and also, should i submit my low sat scores or not?

i’m very surprised you didn’t get in out of high school. are you pre-med? if you are, i wouldn’t mention it because then they go all crazy scrutinizing everything you do. otherwise, i think you have good stats, so as long as you write good essays, you have a very good shot.

i am pre-med biology major.wow serious? but my SATS are the lowest out of all my friends on cc. Do you think I should submit them to cornell or not?

and thank you so much for your comments! that really brightened up my mood.

CALS doesn’t require SATs, so you don’t need to send them

and haha, good! i’m glad i made you happy lol

I think you have a decent shot at Cornell

second all the above posters. altohugh you may not want to be very explicit about you being pre-med. Like ironic said, cornell tends to take a much more critical look at declared premed applicants, so it might be a good idea simply to talk about your interest in your major in your app. Good luck! Are your applying to the Bio Sciences major?I’m applying to CALS as well, but for Bio and Society (I’m a psych major currently, figured B+S would be a good major that isn’t strictly premed).

melon, you will have to explain the switch between majors in your essays also.

Yeah you’ll get in… I think

I am applying for the Biological Science major, right on melon bread! I think B+S would be a greet major to go to!

thank you all you guys for your input, it really means a lot to me that you took time to post.

also ironically, thanks for being so into this forum, i see your posts everywhere and want you to know it is highly appreciated.

haha no problem :stuck_out_tongue: i love CC. it helped me figure a lot out, so i want to give back what i got hehe :)

haha exactly what i thought. good karma wont go rewarded ironicallyunsure  nice to have people like u on cc

What classes did you take at NYU? If that 3.7 is in science classes, that’s pretty good.

Principles of Biology 1
General chemistry 1
general chemistry 1 lab
public speaking
epidemiology, epistemology, ethics, and pointillism

18 credits total

and thanks :D
