I’m hoping to transfer to FSU for fall 2016 and I am currently taking online classes through PSC. I’m getting ready to finish my first semester with 12 credit hours and am wondering if I can start my application and send it in. I’ve heard that in order to transfer over you have to take two math and two English classes. I’m taking one math and one English at the moment but won’t have the other two until the end of the second semester. Should I wait to apply till then, (I’m afraid that might be too late) or can I apply now?
I’ve been told that it is hard to get into most colleges as a freshman transfer, is this true? My cumulative GPA in high school was a 3.8 and I have all A’s in my college classes right now. I’m involved in a lot of out of school activities. The only thing I’m worried about is my ACT score which was a 22. I feel as though I can offer colleges a lot of variety because my parents are in the military and I’ve lived in the United Kingdom my whole life. So it’s kind of like being an international student. Any advice?
You can apply once the application for the semester you’re looking to start is open, but if anything is missing from your application or transcripts (such as English/Math classes), FSU will hold your acceptance until you have them completed. So even if you applied today, if you needed an English and a Math class, FSU wouldn’t accept you until you’d completed them (or at least were taking them, with the requirement that you complete & pass them before you can start at FSU).
As a freshman transfer, you’d need to meet all of the first-time-in-college freshman applicant requirements and basically be able to be accepted to FSU as a current high school senior, in order to be accepted as a transfer. You’d need the high school GPA, academic course rigor, and SAT/ACT scores (among everything else) that a first time applicant would need. A 22 ACT won’t completely ruin your chances but it certainly won’t be that great for your application.
You can technically apply as a transfer all the way up until the deadline for the semester (for Fall it’s usually sometime in the early summer), just know that you may find out only a couple weeks before the semester starts about whether you were accepted or not.
Really though, you would be much better off getting your AA degree and then transferring. It’s a lot easier to be accepted and you can save a lot of money by going that route.
