I didn't see this thread before, so i originally posted in the general college admissions area. Can anyone give me some stats on the transfer rates out of the academies. I'm going to be a soph at West Point and I plan on leaving at the end of this year. My high school stats are pretty solid. I had above 1400 and a good gpa. Yet I didn't perform as well as i wanted and I have a weak college gpa in comparison. My dream school is UVA. can anyone tell me anything about my chances and if coming from west point will make me stand out?

How “low” do you consider your GPA to be? I think West Point will get you some brownie points, but I remember students in my transfer class who came from Harvard, Yale and other Ivy league schools, so I’m not sure it would be a slam dunk. Also, what state are your from? Being a Virginia resident can also be a plus, but I’m not sure how much preference is given to state residency in transfer admissions.

Head on over to the UVA forum on here and ask…there are quite a few who might have a better idea of your chances, and one of the Admissions Deans pops on occassionally.

Stats on transfers in general are hard to come by; and for the academies, pretty much non-existent as it’s a relatively rare occurrence. The most you’ll get are examples and inferences.

While I can’t say what your chances are, I would suspect that coming from an academy, you will stand out in the applicant pool.

What happened with this situation?
