how much are transcripts and gpas considered, beyond a certain point? there are plenty of people who take the most challenging courses offered at their schools and get straight As, so it seems like above a certain level gpa doesn't matter any more.

You are right — if Princeton rcvs 20k applications and 85% of them show a 3.9 GPA and straight As in honors & AP classes, Princeton has to start looking at other aspects of the applicants’ lives in order to choose a class!

Top students take it for granted but a transcript & GPA are the MOST important aspect of an applicant assuming you are hookless. Now if you are a recruited athlete, or have super famous or rich parents, your GPA and transcript doesn’t have to be the best. I know a recruited athlete with 3.0 GPA and 1700 SAT who got in. Compare to the 2400 4.0 UW who don’t get in.

If you have the 3.8 GPA or 2200 SAT I say you are in a good spot. of course a 4.0 and 2300+ would be the best. you at least have a chance with those stats. And yeah … almost everyone has the stats so you have to differentiate yourself from others with ECs, essays, and recs.
