Because I live out of town, I have to request my high school transcripts NOW to factor in mailing times and processing times. Also, my high school asked me to compile all my requests into one check (for all my transcript requests).

My problem is that I haven't started filling out my College Apps or pay application fees (since I am waiting for my Jan SAT score on Feb 14th). However, if I wait till AFTER my SAT scores are out, it will be too late to request transcripts then.

One of the schools I am applying to is Yale. On the website, it said "to open your admissions file, plz submit Form 1 and Fee". Does it mean that I have to submit the fee before my transcript? What happens if my transcript arrives there ....a few days earlier than my application/app fee does?

Also, if I request additional reports for the SAT ON Feb 14th (right after I find out my scores), how long will it take to get to the universities? Will it miss the deadline (March 1st)?

You can send your high school transcripts now and have collegeboard send the SAT scores to your college once they become available. There is no reason to wait for the SAT scores to be posted to your high school record.

And yes, you pay your fee on or prior to the application date (you are paying them to look at your application).

You can write or go online to collegeboard right now and ask them to send your scores to Yale as soon as the scores for the February 14th test is out. Yale will wait for the scores if they indicated on their website that the last acceptable test date for applicants is February 14th. If they did not put that date on the website, then it doesn’t matter when they get your scores–they will be ignored.

If your hs office is well organized, you could order them now and ask them to wait until xx/xxxx date to mail them.

But I wouldn’t worry about them arriving too early. You might also see if the hs will give YOU the transcripts in sealed envelopes with stamp/signature across the seal and then you can send them in.

I gather you are waiting to see whether you like the SAT scores before submitting them? Does Yale require the SAT scores? Because if so, you have to send them anyway… or do you have ACT to submit as alternate?

Don’t worry about the SAT scores arriving by the deadline. It usually does not matter if the ancillary materials arrive a bit later than the deadline. It is YOUR portion and your fee that need to meet the deadline.

It is also typical for schools to hold materials that arrive earlier than your app to match them with incoming apps as they arrive. None of us here on cc can guarantee that, of course. So you could call Yale if you are concerned. But it is usually not a problem.

Thank you for your responses Calcruzer and Andale!

I want to wait for my February 14th score to see if it is worth applying to Yale (if I get too low of a score, then I might as well not waste $75 application fee). However, I would need to request my transcripts now since I would have to mail my request for transcripts. I was wondering if I could send my application in the following order:

1) Transcripts
2) Main Application + Recs

I need to request the transcripts from IB North America (which is in New York). I currently reside in Calgary, AB (Canada) so it will take a few days to reach NY from here (approx 5 days).

The problem is: IBNA will not give me the status on my transcript request (whether/when the transcripts are sent). They said the “normal” processing time is 10-14 business days. So, I was wondering if I should send them out today …If I do send it out today, then Yale might receive my transcripts before my application fee and actual application (since I am waiting till Feb 14th to submit the $).

If Yale keep my transcripts before the arrival of my application + fee, then I am fine…does anyone know if Yale will keep our documents even with out Form 1 (the main app)?

I emailed the office but haven’t received a reply yet. Thanks for the help!

It’s not a problem that your other materials arrive before your application and fee. It happens all the time, they just start a file for you and put in everything that comes in.
