Transcript Concerns

Not long ago I switched schools to get away from a disastrous performance. It has become clear based on what I have read in these forums that I will be required to submit my transcripts from my first school when applying to transfer.

At my current community college I have a 3.5 with around 30 credits completed. My last 5 marks were all A's.

At my previous community college I simply have a nice cluster of W's and 2 F's, both in English.

I have since taken English at my current school and passed with an A. So where does this leave me? How do I make sure those 2 F's do not effect my transfer GPA. I know at my current school you have the opportunity to submit a form and remove a failing grade(s) from your GPA once you have retaken the course. Yet, I do not know what to do in this situation since I have not been active at the previous mentioned school in years and each grade was received at separate institutions. I understand they will see the F's, but I just want to make sure my GPA remains as high as possible.

You have no control over the matter, and most schools factor the Fs into your GPA. However, schools recognize that some students take longer than others to mature, so many schools will consider the upturn in your performance indicative of your readiness to work hard. And many four year schools do not factor transferred grades into your GPA at their school, though if you apply to graduate schools you will usually be required to add them in. Since there’s nothing to be done about it, focus your transfer application essays and recommendations on your new found maturity and hope for the best.
