Transcript Confusion

I've been looking around for an answer to a question I have about transcripts, but I haven't been able to find anything, so I've decided to ask you guys.

I'm going to be applying to a couple of grad schools for library science and in all of the admissions policies it says to send transcriptions from all undergraduate schools attended. I finished my BA in English in 2002. Since then I've taken some Engineering classes (which I didn't do very well in). Here's the question: do I need to include my transcripts for my time in Engineering school? I only completed about a year's worth of studies, it's at a completely different school than where I finished my BA, and it doesn't seem to have any bearing on the library science degree at all (by that I mean, my BA's my stepping stone into the grad program, if I only had my engineering credits, it would be a no go). Also I'd rather not have my poor performance in my last semester of engineering school tarnish my four years' of good work for my BA.

Thanks for your time and your advice,
G.

You answered your own question.

If you want to be technical, you only have to send your transcripts for the BA, because it does say “all /undergraduate/ institutions.” However, if it were me, I wouldn’t feel right unless they had those Engineering transcripts as well. Some schools also request transcripts of any graduate work undertaken.

Showing them you’re a less-than-stellar engineer shouldn’t tarnish your other grades. It just says that you tried the hard sciences and it didn’t work; you’re a humanities person at heart and librarianship would be a much better fit. You said yourself it “doesn’t have any bearing on the library science degree.” Adcoms will probably agree.

BTW: where are you applying? I just sent in my app.s to library schools as well.

I am quite sure that coursework after college degree is not considered part of your undergraduate records and do not need to be included as if they were.

Thanks for the advice everybody.

I guess I’m just worried, because I’ve only taken a handful of classes, so the ones I’m doing poorly in (this semester, ouch!) are really dragging down my GPA…hopefully not below the 3.0 minimum necessary to enter many of the programs.

I’m applying exclusively to online programs, since I also work full-time. I like the University of Arizona and the University of North Texas.
