Hi, so I just SIR’d to UCLA and read that the deadline for them to receive your transcript is June 1. I’m panicking because that’s today, and I’m willing to drive there personally to deliver it myself if that’s the case, but I want to make extra sure and confirm.
It says June 1 for anything through Fall 2014 (and July 1 for later grades). Am I reading that right? Because I was seriously split between schools and only decided recently to SIR to UCLA, only to find that I should have delivered my official transcripts (for anything through Fall 2014) way before. I’m only questioning this because I can’t be the only student to decide on the last day–even then, do they expect us to deliver transcripts to all prospective schools before we’ve made our decision?
Well, since june 1st is a monday, I’m pretty their admissions office will be open, so the most reasonable thing to do is to give them a call, and inquire them about your transcripts so you will completely sure.
I will be attending UCLA as an applied math major (might switch to mathematics of computation if possible) this fall quarter 2015 as a transfer, so I hope to see you there!
Transcripts do have to be delivered by June 1st (for Fall) and July 1st (for spring).
Their processing time is currently pretty high since a lot of people waited until last minute. You CAN have them mailed out, so long as they’re postmarked by June 1st. What I myself would do is drive them there because they give you a confirmation receipt that they have received them. You won’t get screwed over if they’re not processed later on because you’ll have verification.
But this is all assuming you have a copy of your official transcripts ready to go. Because schools usually take a while to prepare them around this time.
@Xaeyvr Thanks for the response! I’m an applied math major as well haha, and hope to see you there too!
@LuckyName yes that is what worries me, I ordered official transcripts for rush pick-up at my CC, I’m definitely going to admissions first thing tomorrow and seeing if I can pick it up by then. I don’t mind driving to LA and delivering in person, just paying for the consequences of waiting so late…I just hope nothing bad happens (scared of jeopardizing my admission now, dumb me). Thanks!
@luckie1367 thanks, I just wish they opened their lines earlier (admission lines open from 1-4). I was afraid it was a hard deadline and the system would have some "check"that if I didn’t have those things completed I would put my admission at risk haha, paranoia getting to me
Don’t worry about it. Just let them know they have been requested. Put a fire under CCC to get them out. They aren’t going to do anything. They’re just hoping you’ll get them there on time. It’s a ballpark, truth be told.
Esp with this new screwy two tier system. Can you imagine the backup at CCCs having to accommodate two mail outs?
@luckie1367, I have no idea, but my hunch is it’s connected with past transcript problems. As you know, they claimed to never have gotten my daughter’s transcript even though we had the receipt stating the exact time it was delivered to UCLA. Later UCLA said the receipt was essentially worthless because the CCCs send multiple student transcripts out in bunches, so my daughter’s was probably erroneously listed as being included.
For basically the whole year I assumed the CCC messed up. I also found a thread on CC from a few years earlier. The same thing happened to about 8 people on the thread, and they all got kicked out, although most got back in as they were able to rush it to them by end of August. So I knew, while not common, it wasn’t totally uncommon.
Anyway, the CCC said only her transcript was sent along with the IGETC certificate. It was not in a bunch - only about 14 kids transfer to UCLA from her CCC and she put the request in super early (end of May). I still figured it was the CCC’s fault.
What made me question if it was this new June 1 req. It just seems to me they are having mess ups so want an extra month to process whatever they can. Also, my daughter thinks they must have had her IGETC Certificate since all the IGETC classes were checked off as completed in her DAR. (I think she said it was a green check mark.) - and it was sent with the transcript.
We are now both leaning to a UCLA mess-up. So, we may never know why they implemented this two -tier transcript thing, but that’s the only reason I can come up with.
Thanks for your responses! Yes, I called and they said they’d give a several day grace-period, we just ought to get them in by the end of the week, which I ordered rush shipping for.
Side note, from what I’ve gathered (reading similar threads of the past) part of why they want your transcripts this early is for orientation reasons. But unofficial would be so much more convenient/make more sense given that we’re sending official for spring grades anyway. Oh well!
UCLA made you bring a copy of your unofficial transcript to orientation, and my daughter said, if something wasn’t in DAR, there was a way they signed off and it was done really fast. Berkeley’s transcript deadline is July 1 and their orientations start on June 8.
Ah well, it’s all above my pay grade. :))
The one thing I will say about using an unofficial for the June 1 deadline, when my daughter got to orientation last year, all her stuff on the DAR was signed off and she registered for classes. She didn’t even bring the unofficial with her, as required, because she saw all her stuff in the DAR before she went. Later when we realized they never received her official, it was determined the DAR was working off the unofficial she sent in January.
So they might not want to confuse things with mixing official and unofficial.
