Transcript held hostage

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I completed 2 years at a Midwest college. My dad paid full tuition until last (9/13-12/13) term when we got into disagreement and he refused to pay. I'm trying to transfer to a different school but the college won't release my transcripts. He and my mom have been divorced for 18 years and I'm eligible for financial aid now using moms info. However the old school won't release my transcripts unless the last terms tuition is paid off full. My mom tried to consign for a sallie Mae loan but was turned down. The old school has now turned the unpaid tuition over to irs collections. They won't even release the transcripts if there is a payment plan in effect. Not until it's paid off in full. Any suggestions? Please! Any help appreciated

You as the student is ultimately responsible for the tuition.

How much is owed?

Your transcript is not being “held hostage”. You have an outstanding bill which yo ump need to pay. How much is this bill? Contact the old college and arrange to pay the bill.

Where do things stand with your dad at this point? Have you considered talking to him about having him pay the school and making a payment plan for you to pay him back?

All schools do the same thing when they are owed money. You have used a service and have not paid for it. Once you pay what is owed, they will release your transcript.
