Transcript help

I'm unsure if this belongs in the non-traditional subforum or not, so I'll just place it here and hope someone moves it there if need be.

Out of high school, in 2008, I decided to follow my heart instead of logic and move to England to attend college. A combination of homesickness, family health issues and the economy tanking led to me essentially dropping out before completing my first semester, but after the end of the university's official withdrawal period. This left me with some fairly significant debt. After returning home, I applied to several universities and was accepted to most of them. I did not include the fact that I'd gone to school in the UK on those applications. However, the reality of my bad decisions caught up to me and I realized I wouldn't be able to afford going to school anywhere at that time.

Now, after several years of hard work, I've reduced my debt to a manageable level and am looking to get back into school. I applied at one of the universities that I was accepted to in 2009, but absent mindedly included my overseas college experience in the application. Now the school will not admit me without the transcripts. This bothers me, obviously, because my transcripts will just show "NC" for all of my classes. I'm not looking to make excuses for myself, but that really doesn't tell the whole story. Also, being as the school is overseas, the cost of shipping the documents is fairly high.

Is there anything I can do here or will I just have to suck it up and pay for the transcripts?

Whenever you apply to a school you need to send transcripts from all past colleges. Just send your transcripts and somewhere in your application you should be able to explain your progress since that time.

You have to pay for those transcripts. Period.

If you still owe that university money, you will probably have to pay that off before they will release the transcripts, so start talking with them and get things sorted out.

I don’t owe any money, but when I’ve contacted the school in London they tell me there are no credits and question why I’d want the transcript which makes me feel even worse about it.

Just tell them that you do know there are no credits on the transcript, but that the places you are applying to require that it be sent to each place that you are applying to. They will get to shake their heads at how crazy life is in the ex-colonies, and you will have transcripts for the people who need them. Everybody wins.
