Transcript help!

Hey,

So I’m American but I did 10th grade in Spain, and I have a few questions about my transcript. First of all, does it need to be officially translated to English, or can anyone do it? Secondly, I have a number of official copies from the school already, with stamp and signature etc. Can I submit those myself, or do they have to be submitted to universities directly from the school?

I am very confused about this process. Essentially, these grades appear as Pass/Fail on my American transcript, but I want to submit a real version with the number grades.

Thanks!

First, your current school should already have your 10th grade transcript, so check with your current school to see if they will be sending that transcript along with your current one. If the current school was planning to, or will agree to, then your old school does not need to send. But no, you do not send, so if your current school does not send, then you will have to get your old school to do so.

Yes, the transcript needs to be in English. You (or your parent, etc) should not translate. If an administrator or teacher from your school can agree to translate it, that’s fine.

Right, I’d guess your US hs has already tackled this, in some way.

Yes, you can submit the Spanish transcript, to show the actual grades. But so many grading schemes are different outside the US. And technically, you do need an official copy. It’s supposed to either be issued in English (by the Spanish school) or translated by a qualified service. I’ve never heard of a US teacher doing the translating.

But let the college worry about that, unless it specifically asks for a conversion. AOs at almost all colleges are familiar with grading standards outside the US.

I have. Of course the OP can/should contact target colleges to ask if the translation needs to be a paid professional translation. My experience is that they will not care, as long as the translator is a professional unrelated to the applicant. But I don’t have experience with all 3000 US colleges.

If it is in spanish it will need to be translated to English for the schools you are applying to
to my knowledge

Your admission counsellor should be able to translate it
