Transcript Mistake: My Birthday

Hi there.

I just submitted one regular and one early action application this week. Everything was mailed out on time and perfect. AND THEN! when i scanned over my transcripts, my old school listed my birthday as october instead of august. it wasnt obvious BUT STILL. i dont want them to think i have someone elses application. is it that big of a deal. i cant contact my counselor because it is thanksgiving/Eid break.

What should I do?!??!?!

*thanks. sorry im just freaking out... i really want to get accepted into these colleges

I doubt if they will notice. When I registered S for the SATs, I accidentally used his brother’s, not his middle initial. S tried, but never was able to get the record changed. Colleges never noticed or cared.

phew thats really comforting to hear.

should i still send new transcripts out to colleges w/ due dates about two months from now???

I don’t think your mistake will matter to colleges.

I am curious, though, how your transcript list your wrong birthday. Did you fill out that part?

Instant rejection if any college sees this discrepancy. With recent trends of older people impersonating younger people to gain advantage in sport or academics, colleges won’t want to deal with any of the legal baggage that comes with these age disputes :p

Although, on a more serious note, colleges should imo really take age into account. July birthdays should be given some set advantage over September birthdays. Maybe some colleges already do!? I’d be more worried about that than anything else.

for a second, i was actually freaking out till i saw the smiley face LOL

haha ;] ok, hmm i wonder if august birthdays are favored… after all august was named after the Roman emporer Augustus because he was well respected and nice unlike his counterparts

oh, and Northstarmom: no, i didnt fill it out wrong! My old high school had made a mistake when inserting it into the system [both me and my twin sister! ;] i even gave her a copy of my passport to prove that my birthday was indeed in august. she said she had changed it, but she didnt =[

and now im stuck. because both schools are closed for break, and i havent been able to check if my sisters transcript is wrong, but im guessing it probably is.

I’m serious about the birthdays.

It would not be fair to compare a September kid with a July kid. The July kid has a lot more adversity to overcome. You’re born in October; accordingly, more should be expected out of you.

sorry- i guess i misunderstood you there!

hmmmm… i dont know…i think it may take some time for you to convince admissions officers to consider birthdays when considering an applicant

… but your argument does make sense. there are people in my grade who are two years older than me, and then there are other kids who are two months younger than me.

just saying though, if you start school late, that doesn’t necessarily mean you are smarter than the other kids in your grade, because you are learning the same information, it actually makes you seem dumber in comparison to other kids your age in the grade above you because you know less… oh i dont know…
