Transcript notation/ dropping class

What would be the consequences of having a W on transcript? I am a first year without financial aid. Class I want to drop is Math 32A because I did very poorly on midterm (got the flu). I would be left with 9 credits.

Would this negatively effect getting into grad school/ premed?

I definitely wouldn’t drop, as I believe you can only be a part-time student once (maybe twice) in your UCLA career, which you would be with 9 credits. After that, there are certain privileges taken away as you’re considered a part-time student. Seeing that you can’t predict the future health-wise or financially, I’d save dropping classes for times when there is absolutely no other option.

Having a W will negatively affect you, because you have to re-take the class and it will be obvious that you dropped. However, it would be worse if you dropped it as an upperclassman.

Also, in the math/sciences, “poor” is relative. You can get a D and still end up with a B, because it’s curved so much. So unless you have like a 25%, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. If you can get a C or better, I’d stay in it. But that’s just my $.02.

Actually, just do the best option and TALK TO A COUSELOR!!! seriously, they get paid to figure these things out, and seeing that it’s a very important decision, that’s the best way to go.

good luck!
