Transcript Q and why Rose-Hulman

First, to what address do I send my transcript to? Directly to the admissions office? Also, is there a template or preferred format to the recommendation letter? I couldn't find the answers anywhere and e-mailed admissions but am still waiting for a response.

My main question however, is why should I choose Rose-Hulman? I'm applying to a bunch of the UCs and Cal Poly SLO, all for computer engineering. What makes Rose-Hulman special, or better than those schools? What does Rose-Hulman have that those schools don't? I know it's a tough question, but I'd very much appreciate you thoughts. Thanks.

I don’t know about your first Q, but as far as your second is concerned, I think there are lots of things that make Rose special.

I’m a sophomore EE at Rose, and one of the things that impressed me during my college search was the career services office at Rose. You can take a look at the companies that come to campus for the career fairs here: [Companies Attending the Rose-Hulman Career Fair](<a href=“404 | Rose-Hulman”>404 | Rose-Hulman)

Just as an example, we have 27 senior computer engineering majors this year and there were 73 companies at the fall career fair looking to hire computer engineering majors full-time. Those odds are not bad at all.

Also, Rose is quite a bit smaller than CP:SLO and other UCs. For example, Cal Poly has about 10 times as many students as Rose does. The student/faculty ratio at Rose is 11:1, whereas at Cal Poly it is 19:1.

Smaller doesn’t necessarily mean better - it depends on what you are looking for - but it definitely makes Rose unique. Because it is small, Rose won’t have the sports programs or activities of some of the larger schools, but in return you get a more familial campus and more personal learning environment (IMO).

Also, Rose is all-engineering. This too can be good or bad, depending on your preferences. For me, I wanted to focus my education on engineering, math, and science, so the focused curriculum and campus at Rose is great. All of the students are engineering, science, or math majors, so everyone has a common set of interests and background.

Rose also has a pretty unique place in the rankings. It doesn’t really mean a whole lot on an individual basis compared to personal fit, cost, etc…but being #1 for so long means that Rose is doing something right.

EDIT: I didn’t really look at UC schools when I was applying to colleges, so I can’t really compare to them other than what I read on their websites. But I’m happy to answer questions, so if you have anything in particular you’re curious about, ask away!

Hi GuyNumber1,

Sorry about the lack of email response, but I am happy to answer your first question here. Just have the transcript sent to:

Office of Admissions, CM1
5500 Wabash Avenue
Terre Haute, IN 47803

Also, no set format to the recommendation letter…just make sure the writer addresses it to Rose-Hulman and not some other school…you’d be surprised. Let me know if you have other questions.
