Transcript Question

So I applied EA to two schools: WPI whose deadline was Nov 10 and UConn, whose deadline is 12/1.

UConn almost immediately sent me a form saying they had recieved everything, and WPI I got that form yesterday. This included my transcript, I believe it was sent about Nov 5th.

The quarter ended Wednesday and just today I got an email from WPI that they require I submit a transcript with either the first quarter or first semester of Senior year grades in order to review my application. Now, my counselor just submitted a transcript like 2 weeks ago online. Here are my questions:

1) Will this transcript she sent "update" or something as the year goes on and grades are added, or do I need to go and request my counselor go and upload another transcript?
2) Assuming I need to go and request a new transcript, will this also be sent to UConn? I don't want to go and ask for a THIRD transcript come December 1 assuming they also require some Senior grades.
3) About how long do I have to send these guys my grades? I won't dilly dally, but my counselor... I asked for a transcript to be sent at the beginning of October, when all my other forms were finished, and she didn't submit it until a day or two before the deadline. Obviously the deadline has been passed and they are emailing me telling me I need this, but I have this feeling my counselor will simply realize she's already SENT mine like 2 weeks ago, and continuously hold off on mine. So how time-sensitive is this and do you have any suggestions regarding how I can convey this importance to my counselor? I do understand that she has hundreds of others to attend to, and I do wish to make her life as easy as possible, but honestly, even if I was her only student, she's the type who waits until somethign absolutely cannot wait any longer to actually get it done.

This request from WPI is normal. UConn will eventually ask for another transcript too. Your counselor might wait until the first semester grades are in before sending anything out. That’s okay with the colleges.

1) The counselor will simply upload a transcript that includes the more recent grades. This is what the college is expecting. Your counselor already knows this request is coming, because most (all?) schools want to see first-semester senior year grades after the initial application deadline has passed. It’s just to verify that you’re still taking challenging courses and still getting decent grades.

2) Don’t worry about going back to your counselor again later and requesting an updated transcript for UConn. She knows this is coming, too.

3) From what you’ve written I would guess that your counselor isn’t dilly-dallying or forgetting, but is instead sending out transcripts in batch before the deadlines. This is normal. I don’t know how big your senior class is, but sending out transcripts for every student upon request would probably tear her daily schedule to pieces. But feel free to ask her if she waits to send them out and when should you expect the school to get it.

Thanks so much for your answer! You say sometimes it’s okay to wait until first SEMESTER, but that isn’t until later January at my school. WPI says they will notify you BY Dec 20th. So, waiting for first semester would not be a good diea in this case right? (Since UConn has rolling admissions, it would also be better to jsu get them the grades sooenr rather than later as well, no?)

Also, so you would suggest waiting until UConn asks for my Senior grades before actually submitting them?

Finally, yeah, I understand. I see how busy they are and they’ve got their courseload, it’s just frustrating when everything’s in except for them, it makes it difficult to empathize sometimes. But, she does get the job done and make sure everythign IS on time, so I should give her more credit. I guess I was just semi venting since this is all kind of confusing and a tad frusterating.

Thanks so much for your advice! :)

Just wondering, in regards to the transcript, if my counselor uploaded my transcript to commonapp, do all the schools that I am applying to through commonapp receive it?

Mainly I am wondering if I would have to send it seperately to each schools.

Thanks,

Sunnyhome

Sunny, they’ll all get it, just like with teacher recs (:

Thanks Alesteors,
Sunny

WPI won’t wait to receive the senior year transcript before they make an admissions decision. First-semester senior year grades aren’t used for determining ED and EA admission, they’re used for confirming it. You’ll be accepted or not based on your stats through the end of junior year, but if they later find out that you’re taking a blow-off schedule senior year and getting straight C’s, they can rescind your acceptance.

Go to your CA account. Click on School forms. Click on a school. It shows what the school has downloaded and when.

spdf - are you sure? Because this is the email I recieved:

"Dear Alexander,

We have completed an initial review of your application for undergraduate studies at WPI. We would like to be able to bring your application to our admissions committee for consideration, but at this time we are missing some required items.

This list represents any missing supporting documents:

High school transcript including first quarter or semester senior grades

As part of the admissions review process we require at least 1st quarter or semester grades from your senior year. This e-mail lists Transcript with Senior Grades as a missing item. If you believe a transcript was already submitted on your behalf, it is likely that it did not include any senior grades"

That gives me the impression that they need them BEFORE they make a decision?

Nobody is going to have first-semester grades before November 10, but it looks like WPI wants something from senior year. Show your counselor that e-mail and ask if the transcript included any senior grades.
