Hey, so I've been looking at my transcript on Bear Facts and I have some questions about it because there is some notation that I don't understand. Next to my math grade, it says "G5." And then it also says "honors to 05-09." What does this mean?

berkeley.edu -> Search: “G5 transcripts” -> [Grade and Credit Code Definitions - Office Of The Registrar](http://registrar.berkeley.edu/Records/gradeskey.html)

berkeley.edu -> Search: “transcript honors” -> Achievements

Thanks so much! I got an A in the class, but is the “G5” mark looked down upon in any way by grad/med schools? Will they know what it is?

As a C- or better grade won’t be replaced when you retake the class, both grades should appear on your transcript AND in your GPA. The likelihood that the school in question will recognize the code is slim, but seeing duplicate courses with different grades is universally understood and you will probably be asked questions about it. Being asked questions is usually not a good thing, but having a good explanation should be enough to get past that.

That’s not really what happened. I took Math 1A, but then I decided to take Math 16B this semester. You usually get 3 credits for Math 16B, but only 2 if you had taken 1A. So this is what it says on my transcipt:

Math 16b 2.0 A
Math 16b 1.0 A G5

Ah! That’s interesting. You should be okay explaining that, especially since it’s a class targeted to life sciences majors.
