Ok, I’m in a very weird predicament right now, and I am very confused. So, I applied to Montana State University for 2018 back in August and got accepted. It was not required to send in a transcript when I applied, as it said a final one is only needed after I graduate.
So, today I logged into the web portal and noticed an unofficial HS transcript had been sent from a private school where I took only one summer class in an attempt to raise my grade (I’ll call this school “School Z”). I had initially passed the course (precalculus) with a D+ (yes, terrible, but passing) at my high school (I’ll call this school “School Y”). I had ambitious plans to retake the class and raise my grade on my official transcript at the beginning of the summer, but work and other things got in the way, so I ended up not being able to complete the course by the end date.
On the MSU application there was a check box stating “I grant permission to my high school to release transcripts to Montana State University” or something of that nature (does this mean any high school I attended?). Then, on the web portal it says they received an “unofficial transcript” from School Z, a school where I had only taken one course (one semester of one course) and received an “I” for incomplete. First off, I never notified School Z that I wanted a transcript even sent to my high school. Secondly, I have no idea how School Z would know that I had applied to MSU, or any college for that matter. Lastly, the course would only appear on my official transcript from School Y had I received a higher grade than I had for the course I took during my junior year (right?).
How would MSU have gotten hold of the transcript from the summer course if I never requested it be sent? Could the “Incomplete” on the transcript affect my current admission decision? Is this really a big deal or does the fact that the transcript is unofficial mean it doesn’t matter for admissions at all? If so, is it possible the incomplete grade could show up on my official transcript?
Thanks for any possible help!
