Transcript Woes

OK- I just received my official transcripts in the mail from my Undergrad uni and I discovered that the two classes I took at the American University of Beirut (way back when) had transferred over onto my transcript (with grades). This completely threw me off because I neglected to ask AUB for transcripts and I fear that it may be too late to get things in on time.

Should I worry about this? They were two classes I took back in 1999- before getting my greencard and immigrating to the US.

Is it possible for me to get a waiver for that transcript? Should I speak to the admin reps? Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Contact the schools. Likely, they'll let you send the transcripts after the deadline or something similar. If not, you may be screwed for those schools but I know that when I fedex'd my study abroad program in Mexico (overnight), I got a turn-around of less than a week (better than many in-state schools I've had to get transcripts from)! However...it also cost me about $85 to get those transcripts!

Actually, I was under the impression that if the grades showed up on your undergrad transcript, you didn't need to get a separate transcript from the study abroad school. One of the schools I applied to (English PhD) specifically said this, and I assumed that the same was true for the others. It just didn't seem to make sense that once my undergrad school had accepted and recorded my grades on my official transcript I would still need to get a transcript from my London program.

I guess I'll find out when schools send letters to applicants who are missing materials. Good luck!

I already faxed my transcript request form over to AUB and I am hoping to God that I get them soon enough.

I do wish however that I could have access to the unofficial transcript- this way, I could send that in beforehand. Here is to hoping that things don't fall through! :(

I don't suspect this will be a major issue for your application whatsoever.

Depends on the school. Some schools don't mind but many do. It's best to be upfront about things like this because if you're not, you may miss deadlines. Some schools sent me a letter authorizing me to not send transcripts from my study abroad but specifically asks me to include a copy of the letter they sent me for their own records so that it wouldn't hold up my application.

I see Apumic. What was this letter that they sent you?

I actually already sent in the transcript request by Fax to Lebanon. I am going to ask them to fax/email me a copy of my official transcript in the interim- which I will attach to my application.

AUB is going through tough times, especially in the aftermath of the 2006 war and the registrar told me that processing may take a little longer than usual. :(

The letter was simply an email they asked me to print out and attach to the application. Nothing fancy, just a way of reminding themselves that a dept/admissions rep had ok'd my not sending an official copy until after I was accepted. I think if you email your grad schools letting them know what's going on, they'll work with you, but if you simply ignore the problem, you may get a nasty surprise if they reject your app b/c it was incomplete and they didn't know there was a problem.
