When I aply to MIT, may I send in a photocopy of my college transcripts taken from 4 schools? I would rather not send the transcripts to any school because, on average, each transcript costs $25 to send, and I'm looking to apply to 8 schools.
25 * 4 * 8 = $800, which is hard to afford financially.

So I would like to know whether I can send only a copy of my transcripts to MIT (as well as other schools).

um... from what i remember, your school should have a collection of your entire schooling career transcripts. That's why when you go to different schools, you pass along your transcript.

So shouldn't it be $25 x 8 = $200... still a lot

my school only charges $2 for every transcript(past the 3rd one, 3 for free)

I doubt they would accept photo-copies.
$25 for a transcript? Are you sure? That's insane. My school sends them out for free unless you need speedy shipping.

they aren't going to accept photocopies. Are the college grades on your high school transcript? That might fly. I tried to photocopy one of my son's college transcripts and they had some sort of technology that cause the university name to be blotted out on the copy and the work "copy" to be printed all over it.

Here's a thought: send only your high school transcript for the purpose of admissions, and write your college grades in the "Self-reported course work" section of the app (I understand other apps may not have that section, but MIT's does). If you're accepted, then send the official college transcript for the purpose of determining transfer credit and all that fun stuff.

It may not work for you, but it's at least a thought.

I wouldn't risk this. If you want the college courses and grades to be considered, I think you should send them official transcripts. If one of the schools only has you down for some irrelevant bit of fluff, you could leave that one out. But if you took, say, multivariable caclulus in college, you want MIT to know that and you need to send an official transcript.

Ask your high school registrar or counselor if they would put them on your high school transcript if you had them sent to your high school. If they will, then ask some of the colleges you will be applying to if they will accept that.
