New here and probably should have checked in sooner. Son is 14, finished his AA at the local community college (took 4-1/2 years part-time) and is transferring either to UCLA or UCLA through TAP program.

UCI has already accepted him, but they want high school transcripts! I imagine UCLA will want the same thing, if they decide in his favor in early May.

He didn't do a "curriculum" just read "great books" and went to a lot of museums and events.

What does a transcript look like? How do I do this?

I recommend the book by Loretta Heuer entitled "Homeschoolers Guide to Portfolios and Transcripts." The book gives detailed examples of all the different types of records and documents, including transcripts. There are duplicatable sheets in the back of the book that can be used for book lists, lists of performances and films attended, etc.

Congratulations, acoshow, first for your son's acceptance at UCLA, and second for escaping without having to sweat over that transcript. It might still be a good idea to put one together in case he ever needs it - one hears such tales - but you don't have to go crazy getting it just right. What a relief for you!

California community colleges are a wonderful resource. My son is not a great standardized test-taker and so we knew we couldn't do the AP and SAT route to college. He also isn't one of the kids who joins a lot of organizations to look good. His biggest EC was managing his punk band.

The transfer path was a great route for his personality. There are quite a few "priority" or "guaranteed" transfer programs to the UCs and I would highly recommend them to any Californians on this board.
